Toxic versus Non Toxic Mange Treatment

By Wendell Ruben

A good effective Mange Treatment will depend on the type of mange your pet has. It can either be Demodectic Mange or Sarcoptic Mange. Depending on how severe your pet has mange, depends on how you should treat for mange. You also have the option of a Mange treatment that includes traditional Toxic treatments, Non Toxic topical mange treatments or treating with home remedies you find on the internet. Learn before you move forward. Your loving pet may be a risk and perhaps die if you are not careful.

Finding a good Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange and Sarcoptic Mange is basically a two step process. You treat the infection if it is present and your treatment should kill the mange mites that are causing your pet to itch and tear its skin. This can be a pretty daunting task if you don't know how to accomplish this task easily and quickly.

Lets talk about a Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange. Demodectic mange, sometimes also called Demo or Demodex mange most often includes infection. You can usually tell if your dog or cat has infection by just smelling your pet. If it has a septic smell, then it is most likely that your pet has infection. The skin is usually red and perhaps even raw.

You want to get control of the infection right away. You can most likely do that by using non toxic topical products currently on the market by people who specialize in mange treatments. Your pets immune system can't fight the infection at this point and it needs help by using non toxic products such as medicated body washes made of benzalchonium chloride. Beware of toxic products or mange treatments that is so strong, it will burn your pets already inflammed skin! You want to stop the infection as quickly as possible and not cause more skin problems. If the infection is bad enough, the infection could get into your pets blood stream and your pet would then have to be treated orally with antibiotics.

The trick to a good and effective mange treatment is finding one that is a non toxic topical product. You don't have to make your pet sicker by applying toxic dips or giving him oral toxic medications such as ivermectin. Why treat the entire pet when you only have to treat him topically? Why bring his immune system down? These toxic dips and oral products reduces your pets immune system even more and it can't fight bacl. Your pets immune system is usually shot by this time and it is already compromised; that's why it can't fight back the mites. So why make it worse?

Finding a mange treatment for Sarcoptic mange is pretty easy. The mange treatment usually lasts about 2 weeks, while treating mange for demodectic mange can last months. Understand that Demodectic Mange is inherited by your pets mother. This type of mange is an offset of your pets weak immune system and the mites burrow deep down into the hair follicle. This causes the mites feces and body parts to create an allergic reaction called inflammation.

Whether you are treating for Demodectic or Sarcoptic Mange, your pets Mange treatment should continue several weeks after symptoms stop and you begin seeing the hair growing back. I also recommend putting your pet on a good vitamin to boost it's immune system.

Pets with mange symptoms are required to be isolated away from other pets to avoid cross contamination. Wash your pets bedding daily and keep your pet out of your own bed. Thoroughly clean a good Disinfectant Spray. Do not reintroduce the bedding, toys or any other items that the pet usually uses until the infestation has been contained and treated. If your pet gets reinfested with mange mites or the pet is not treated, the bed cleaning will have to be repeated again and again until the pet is mange-free. - 31851
